Inner Child vs Death
Listen, surgery is scary. Yes, rationally we know modern medicine can take good care of us, and we’ll be fully functional again in a few months. But it’s still fundamentally life-and-death. Back when our mutant monkey brains evolved, this shit could kill us. And for all the advances of civilized humanity, our psyche hasn’t evolved much since those days. So the anticipation...

Nobody knows what’s going to happen. So we need death to make us evolve.

Along a Continuum
(reblogged via An Entirely Other Day)
I’m standing in line at the gas station, with my half-gallon of caffeine and bubbles, and the guy in front of me gets his turn and shuffles up to the counter. He’s sort of gaunt and weathered and a wind-breaker hangs loosely on his shoulders. He puts something that looks like a small electric razor to his throat and turns it on. A sharp...

you can now play Sonic the Hedgehog on iPod, for $5 bucks (as reported today in TUAW).
this is the last of my Twitter posts that will appear at Daily.Mykl.org (http://daily.mykl.org/post/21510413).
windchimes jammin’ in the wintery porch winds.
snowfall ramps up and down and on again, collecting on the river banks, and sprinkled on bright green grass.
@Nance - my surgeon asked me if i wanted to see what he removed, and gave me a Polaroid. i like knowing what the troublemaker looked like.
fat snowflakes swirling in the wind, the grey hill stands quiet.
suddenly, rain drumming on the roof. maybe the power will go out. then i’ll HAVE to stop working. oh, darn.
listening to Appalachian music, reading Japanese fiction, and eating Italian food.
cardinals and blue jays doing a territorial aerial and treetop ballet.
scruff-balling my way through a busy Saturday, with other little indulgences (because i deserved a day off, but have too much to do).
done with late breakfast & meal-tasking, now back to multi-tasking.
listening to some great compilation tapes that River made, long ago.
What’s the point of reading about the Oregon Trail, if you’re not going to read about people eating each other?” - Robin O.
traditional education is much better at making kids feel stupid, than making them feel smart.
Hearth Hill →
i’ve hurried back to the quiet and warmth of my home in the hills, where i am now sequestered in my office, staring down the ungodly pile of work currently dominating the landscape of my waking days (even intruding into dream).
if you were driving through the mountains in an ice storm, would you take the exit for “Fairchance Road”?
brainstorms resume in the moumtains, with torrential ideas; flashfloods expected. many ideas, old & new, now flowing together. stay tuned.
the sun shines, but bones chatter when the wind blows.
adrenaline subsided, errands run, continuing west into the mountains, keeping my eye on a damaged tire.
the cause? slow funeral procession escorted by cop on Interstate. 1 deadguy nearly brought 12 more with him. beware the angry dead?
we all drove out of the stinking billowy cloud of burnt rubber n brake-pads we had produced, with adrenaline working each heart like a b …
just oh-so narrowly avoided full partnership in a multi-car pile-up. 12+ drivers all kept it together in lattice of swerving cars.
i’m in the lab, cooking up something new, with some of you!
@AreAitch meet @Nance. welcome to Twitter, kids!

my microblog is leaving my tumblelog
if you’re using this tumble blog to read my Twitter posts (the short, 140 character or less, blurbs on these pages), and if you like reading them, you should start following me on Twitter. my use of Twitter is becoming increasingly conversational. but on these pages, you only “hear” my end of the conversation – like listening to someone else on the phone. whereas on Twitter...
