haiku on the short wave

areaitch: ooh! will hafta check em out l8r.
mykliam: it's easier to sneak into one's work day. or whatever. and pretty quick and easy setup (almost as quick as Tumblr).
areaitch: yeah i need to check Twitter out... been meaning to, just haven't yet. my daily routine isn't interesting enough!
mykliam: you can post about anything you want (in 140 characters or less). what's in your head. whatever. it can make you look differently at your day, looking for the interesting if little thing that's worth sharing.
areaitch: gotchas.
mykliam: and the 140 character limit is a little like writing haiku.
areaitch: heh.
mykliam: with friends, it can also be a little like very abbreviated chat, but NOT in real time but i haven't explored that approach so much, as i've hardly any friends on Twitter. :(
areaitch: yeah - it's a similar thing with the blogs, tumblr, email even - everybody i know varies so widely in their online usage.
mykliam: i think that's the sign of a good app; it's adaptable to your needs.
areaitch: not everyone 'checks in' as regularly/constantly as i do, or you.
mykliam: sometimes, not even me. FYI, you can post to Twitter from IM, cell phone, Twitter.com, a Mac program called Twitterific, Facebook, others.
areaitch: but i know, with you, that it won't be - say - weeks until you check your email, catch up on blogs etc etc. as with some folks i know.
mykliam: yeah, not usually.
areaitch: not that that's wrong, but... makes for odd temporal shifts.
mykliam: those folks that can't even get to the email, i lose touch with a lot of them. it takes an effort to communicate on that long wave length. i've gotten awfully short wave (to torture a metaphor).

Running The Numbers
images from the show are online, but as they’re up to 10 feet wide, it really seems like something worth seeing in person. i’m gonna try to see it sometime next month. any New Yorkers got a guest bed they wanna loan in exchange for a few well shaken martinis, made to order? a sofa? meet me for coffee and a bagel?
freaky aging
I don’t think people really become any freakier with age. Rather, I believe that healthy maturing adults increasingly understand and embrace who they really are, as the years bring them more awareness and wisdom.

No one really has mass appeal, except a few cardboard cut-outs backed by multi-million dollar marketing machinery. And, if we believe the tabloids, none of those super stars can maintain a relationship with actual humans who date them in person. Mass appeal is most appealing from a distance.
